It's SPRING!!!

I just love spring time.  Baseball, Track, T-ball and Soccer kids are involved in so many afterschool activities now a days, it is difficult to keep their attention on school work.  That is where I get a little sneaky with my SMARTBoard.

I use one of their favorite games on the SMARTBoard to teach my Math lessons, Koosh Ball.   Each student gets a turn at throwing the Koosh Ball at the SMARTBoard.  When the problem pops up the student answers the question.   Then the student or teacher touches a flower to be linked back to the home page and the next student can take their turn.  Now you may be thinking, “What does she do with the rest of the class?”  Well they all have their white boards at their desks working the same problems that pop up on the SMARTBoard.  If I see a student is not doing the work or if they need some extra attention from me, they sit at my reading table where I can keep a closer eye on their work.

Even though I like to use the Koosh Ball game for Math it can be used for any subject.  It makes a great review game before a test.

Another fun Math activity is Spring Time Number Line.  This fun Spring Time Themed SmartBoard lesson teaches the Common Core Standard for 1st Grade: Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 20 using the strategy of a number line to find the answer to a problem.

Saint Patrick's Day

OK I finally took the plunge and started my own Blog.  I hope to show teachers activities that will engage and delight students while using the SMARTBoard as a innovative classroom tool.

Saint Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick’s Day is such a fun time of the year.  My First Graders love working on word finds.  So I created this word find for the SMARTBoard.  I put a PDF word find in the attachment tab so the students can work on the activity at their seats before we complete it on the SMARTBoard.  Click here to download
my free Saint Patrick’s Day Word Search.

Another fun activity I do with my students is playing a game called Shamrock Koosh Ball.  Even students who do not have a good aim when throwing a koosh ball at the SMARTBoard will love to play.  You see I covered every inch of the SMARTBoard with a shamrock, linked to a question page.   So no matter where the students hit the board they will be taken to a question page.

I use the Koosh Ball temple with many different subjects: math, reading, science, etc. All I have to do is double click the writing on the page and change it to a question I want my students to answer.

The student will throw a koosh ball at the SMARTBoard, answers the question, touch either the leprechaun or the shamrock that is linked back to the home page and then let the next student take their turn.

My First Graders adore any Koosh Ball game played on the SMARTBoard.
